Sheila A. Murphy, PhD

Dr. Sheila Murphy is a forensic psychologist, researcher, consultant, and speaker specializing in extreme violent crime, with a particular focus on criminal cannibalism, sexually motivated violence, paraphilic disorders, and offender behavior. Her work combines evidence-based research with decades of real-world leadership experience, allowing her to provide practical, informed consultation to attorneys, law enforcement agencies, government organizations, and private clients.

Her doctoral research examined the psychosocial characteristics of North American males who engaged in criminal cannibalism, contributing to the limited body of research on one of the rarest and most complex forms of violent offending. Through extensive analysis of investigative records, court documents, interviews, and behavioral evidence, Dr. Murphy developed specialized expertise in offender behavior, violence, victim-offender dynamics, and the psychosocial factors associated with extreme violent crime. Her work continues through ongoing research into criminal cannibalism, paraphilic disorders, and other extreme violent offenses, further advancing knowledge in this specialized field and supporting evidence-based consultation, training, and expert witness services.

Before transitioning into forensic psychology consulting, Dr. Murphy built a distinguished career in executive leadership within the live entertainment industry. She has managed theaters, arenas, conference centers, and nonprofit arts organizations, overseeing venue operations, event logistics, risk management, artist relations, contract negotiations, and large-scale public events. This unique background provides valuable insight into behavioral risk, organizational operations, public safety, crisis response, and industry best practices, making her a sought-after consultant and expert witness in matters involving entertainment venues and live events.

Dr. Murphy is also a proud United States Navy veteran. During her military service, she served as a Navy Ombudsman and President of the Family Support Group, where she advocated for military families, developed support programs, and conducted educational presentations on deployment, family resilience, and the transition between military and civilian life. These experiences fostered a deep understanding of military culture, the unique challenges faced by service members and veterans, and the impact those experiences can have on behavior, trauma, and reintegration.

Today, Dr. Murphy brings together expertise in forensic psychology, military service, and executive leadership to provide consultation, expert witness services, training, and educational presentations. She is committed to translating complex behavioral science into practical, evidence-based guidance for legal professionals, investigators, organizations, and communities seeking a deeper understanding of human behavior in high-risk and complex environments.
